Design and build quality

The iPhone 13 Promax has a similar look, just like its predecessor, the 12 Pro Max, which comes with just a few minor upgrades.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with a shiny stainless steel frame and glass on the front and back. One of the best parts of the 13 is the battery life. It had a 121-hour endurance rating during our tests. Apart from having the longest endurance ever for an iPhone, it is also up there in terms of the 2021 flagships in general.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max can survive up to 30 minutes underwater at a depth of 6 meters. The ceramic shield by Corning, the display’s cover glass, offers some of the best protection in the industry. However, when it’s abused, it is prone to scratching and shattering.

DISPLAY

The iPhone 13 Pro screen comes with a 6.7-inch Super Retina OLED display with a pixel density of 458 PPI. It is HDR 10 and Dolby Vision-compliant too. The high 120Hz refresh rate was introduced by Apple for the first time on its phones. This call is called Promotion, and it is adaptive.

Mobile games can’t fully utilize their display just yet, but besides that, the feature is very well executed. The display can drop down to as low as 10 Hz and then boost up to 120 Hz on the fly, depending on whether you are touching the phone screen or the current content.

This helps in saving battery life while maintaining a smoother experience when in need. Aside from that, this is a wonderful display. The phone has a wide color gamut and very flawless color accuracy.

During our test, we also got an excellent 1050 nits in auto-brightness, which simply means it is one of the brightest phone panels on the market. The audio quality of its speakers is also impressive.

SPEAKERS

The iPhone 13 Pro max speakers are  bottom-firing, and its earpiece pot serves as a second channel. During our test, the speakers were very loud. When considering phone speakers, these are considered among the best sounding speakers that you can find in a smartphone.

Battery Life

The 13 Pro Max is a big phone, and part of that comes from its 4,352mAh battery capacity, which is the biggest battery capacity that Apple has ever put in its iPhones. Additionally, one of the best parts of the iPhone 13 Pro is its battery life. It had a 121-hour endurance rating during our test.

Apart from being the iPhone with the longest endurance ever, it is also up there in terms of the 2021 flagships in general. It is not just having a good standby time that gives it this result; its screen-on time is great, which shows that the phone can survive a full day or two of heavy usage.

Charging & Storage

Sadly, the iPhone 13 Pro doesn’t come without a charger. However, during our tests, we used a 20-watt Apple charger, the phone went from “0%” – 42% in 30 minutes. Additionally, the iPhone 13 Pro Max supports charging of up to 27 watts, which allows it to charge from 0 – 55% in 30 minutes when you use a more powerful adapter. It’s important to note that it doesn’t improve the overall full charging time.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with 6GB RAM, and  storage capacity of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. On the other hand, the non pro 13 versions come with 4GB RAM.

Software and UI

The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with iOS 15 out of the box, which is visually not a huge update over the current iOS software. Its UI elements are noticeably rounder. Its features like notification management, messages, FaceTime, Safari browser, maps, and Wallet have all been improved.

For example, the notifications feature has undergone a complete modernization, and they now have better visibility. You get to choose or set focus profiles that will filter notifications depending on what you may be doing.

Camera

The biggest update that comes with the iPhone 13 Pro Max model is the camera. All the  three rear cameras have been greatly improved. So, you’re getting a 12-megapixel main sensor that has larger pixels than previous iPhones; in fact, it has the largest single pixels in a smartphone.

With the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the 12-megapixel telephoto now comes with three-times optical zoom instead of the usual 2.5 times. Also, the 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor allows for more light & now has autofocus, so it can serve as a double macro cam.

It comes with a LiDAR scanner too, which helps the three cameras with depth maps to take better portraits with a faster autofocus in low-light areas. Only the selfie front camera is the same 12-megapixel unit as the previous iPhones.

Main Camera

The 13 Pro Max can take very good photos during the day with the main camera. Of course, iPhones have a very iPhone-like flavor. Colors can be accurate but unexciting; their dynamic range is wide, and at the same time, they have a balanced HDR. It has good detail, and the noise is non-existent. You can use the photographic styles to achieve a more expressive photo look if you want more dramatic images.

You can get sharp and detailed images using the telephoto, as they possess the same vibe as the main camera. It has minimal noise, and the dynamic range is great. The colors and dynamic range stand as a good match for its other cameras. It possesses an extra softness here and there, though, with a bit of noise.

You can get some extreme close-ups with the phone’s ultrawide camera, thanks to the autofocus. They are not quite macro, and the focus is shallow. However, with good light, a steady hand, and patience, you can take some pretty impressive shots. You can use both the telephoto and the main cameras to take good portraits.

The main camera can produce higher-quality images; on the other hand, the telephoto allows for a nicer perspective. The phone photos have great detail, the skin tones are warm, and the dynamic range is great too. The main camera has good subject separation, but sometimes the phone blurs the shoulders of your subject when it shouldn’t. Once again, the phone has an excellent dynamic range and colors.

Shots from the phone’s front camera had good skin tones. The dynamic range, exposure, and detail were great, and I barely noticed much noise.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max default Auto Night mode is excellent. When it comes to boosting shadows and restoring highlights, the phone is less aggressive compared to Android phones. You can get an awesome, true-to-life look on the iPhone.

If you want to zoom in with the 13 Pro Max at night, the Max will revert to its primary camera when the scene is very dark. In general, the images taken from the phone are okay, but they are nothing amazing.

The detail and sharpness are good in reasonably lit scenes if they are captured by an actual telephoto. However, they’re a bit too dark for our taste.

At night, the 13 Pro Max ultrawide snapper is a step up compared to what you get on the previous iPhone 12 Pro and what you get with the vanilla iPhone 13.

Shots from the phone have accurate color with good sharpness and detail. The cake is great, but we would have preferred slightly brighter shadows.

Video Recording

The iPhone 13 Pro Max has the  ability to record videos up to 4K at 60 fps with all of its cameras. iPhones possess excellent video recording quality, and  the 13 Pro Max is no exception. The footage is good during the day. The dynamic range is also good too; it doesn’t produce any noise, the colors are lively, and  have plenty of detail. Videos taken with the iPhone’s telephoto are the same as with the main camera, just zoomed in three times.

What to Consider Before Buying the UK Used iPhone 13 Pro Max in Nigeria

Buying the UK used iPhone 13 Pro Max in Nigeria could be cost-saving, but before buying the phone, it’s best to thoroughly investigate the phone’s software and hardware and other things you think can pose a risk to the phone. Sellers may choose to hide faults of the phone which could be the reason why they want to sell it. That is why it’s better to buy from a reputable physical individual or walk-in store, so you can inspect the phone to your satisfaction before paying, than buying from online.
